Description
“Gardien de Lumière” (Guardian of Light) unfolds through a dialogue between two faces that respond to one another in striking symmetry. On one side, the Eye, heir to ancient protective symbols, acts as a benevolent shield watching over the intimacy of the home. On the other, an anthropomorphic Sun radiates its vital force. By giving the star a face, the artist grants it interiority: the Sun no longer merely shines : it observes. The formal resemblance between the iris and the solar disc establishes a reciprocity between the work and the viewer, creating a play of mirrors in which the piece becomes a living presence.
By merging solar iconography with symbols of prosperity and abundance, Anton Hasler creates a modern talisman. “Gardien de Lumière” (Guardian of Light) stands as a bridge between ancient legends and contemporary life : a poetic response to chaos, offering protection and illumination through its mere presence.
This pursuit of coherence is reflected in a mixed-media approach that underscores the breadth of the artist’s practice. Acrylic, oil pastel and marker converge to articulate layered visual languages. Precise linework affirms the clarity of symbol, while softened, diffused passages introduce movement and breath. The resulting tension between definition and blur becomes a metaphor for perception itself : an attempt to reconcile fragmentation through a unified, contemplative vision.
